What a hoot! Obviously a weed eater powering a trolling moter lower end. What a concept. Looks pretty neat. Talk about saving some fuel!

FARCE!!!

That's a Weed Eater powerhead on an ELECTRIC trolling motor stem. How are you going to drive an electric motor with a weed eater motor???

Re: crazy outboard on ebay, look

Clearly the weed eater motor is just there to circulate coolant into the fusion reactor located in the shell of the former electric trolling motor.

How do you put in the gas or keep it in the tank?
Maybe their is a generator in line that powers the electric motor on the trolling motor.
It's amazing what you can do with a hack saw & a little hot glue or PhotoShop.

Why bother with the trolling motor bottom part? Just mount a plastic prop on a weedwacker and a little relocation of the motor and a few clamps and ????? I'm heading for the shop now..weird science in progress!

I could see you making a WHOLE lotta friends out there on opening day fishing season when you start your weed whacker up and start trolling around a zillion other people out for some relaxation. I wanna watch!

I copied and expanded the ebay photos to get a good look at them. If this guy doctored the photos he is way better than I am with photo shop. They look to consistent at different angles to be 'created' IMO. Looks like it could be real. My Mantis garden tiller has a transmission that looks like it could fit that housing (dissasembled) so I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possiblility BUT the noise would just suck!

Could there maybe be a way to route the exhaust into the water via a tuned pipe and some tubing?
Too much backpressure? Too long of an exhaust pipe?

Yes there would be a way to route the exhaust into the water. Its called a Johnson or a Yamaha or a Suzuki or a Mercury

Re: crazy outboard on ebay, look

As has already been said, my issue with this is that there is, or at least should be an electric motor in the "lower unit" of that thing. If it is legit, how is power being transfered from the weedeater motor to the prop? Maybe the plans explain it, I don't know. I doubt the pics are doctored, but how hard could it be to take a weedeater powerhead and attach it to an electric trolling motor shaft just to snap pics. The "in use" pic is inconclusive because a person paddling a canoe can create just as prominent of a wake. I smell scam but it would be cool if it were a real possibility (I am sure it could be done, but at what real price?). For the money spent on this, they can get a real outboard, albeit used, but still real. Cool looking though...

I can see an upside to that. winning the adoration of picnickers at the boat ramp.. just whip that puppy off the boat and replace the prop with some cord, and you can clean up the shoreline.

Something to do while waiting to get your boat in the drink.

Rgds

Franki

Re: crazy outboard on ebay, look

Don't stop there. Make that plastic prop aluminum or steel and you have a brush-cutter/outboard motor.

8.8Hp..Yeah, Right! Take that first 8 off. 8.8Hp would bend the shaft or snap the clamp bracket...whichever came first.

I've been thinking of it. Could be done I spose. But you'd need to have a Weed Eater AND a trolling motor to sacrifice. Who has one let alone both? Throws that $200 figure right out the window. Reliability would be a huge hurdle regardless.

Even .8hp would be unlikely. Most weedwackers are about .8hp at the crank, you'd get maybe 1/2hp if you're lucky at the prop. You can get both a new weedwacker and trolling motor for under $200, or used ones for well under $100. Still, a used outboard would be a much better investment...

Re: crazy outboard on ebay, look

I doubt seriously that there is 8.8 HP at the prop of that motor he has displayed. I would have to say though that with an expansion pipe, polished ports, and 60% nitro methane that motor should be able to pull somewhere around 10 to 11 hp at around 23,000 RPM. The prop would spin so fast that it wouldn't go anywhere due to extreme cavitation not to mention the $30 a gallon for fuel and the weekend long engine life. LMAO!

Serously though I did some searching on eBay and came across several $50 - $60 brand new gas powered weed whackers from 25cc to 30cc, one at $130 was even 4-cycle. You can also buy a Minnkota 35lb thrust from Costco for $80. Seems his pricing may be correct throwing in some $$ for the transmission housed in the base where the electric motor was, and a trottle.
