Creamy gray stuff in exhaust port.

I just pulled the lower unit off of my 40 hp ELETB. In and around the exhaust port was a creamy grey colored stuff. Kinda like whipped grease. I recently ran it on the lake. It was a little difficult to start and idling erratically but I figured that sitting unused was the culprit for that. After some time it began running smoothly and starting much like it always has. Any suggestions concerning the milky, creamy, residue?

I think I found the culprit. The lake I was running on was an Idle speed only. I believe the stuff was there because all I did was idle all day. Make sense?

Thanks fellas. I'm glad it's normal.

That creamy grey stuff would be a mixture of Oil, Fuel and WATER. It is possible that your exhaust cover may have a bad gasket.

I am keeping an eye on it. However given the circumstances I am going with the prolonged idle at the lake. I'll post if I find the same thing after a long run at WOT.

Check your gear oil, you could have a gearcase leak.

I had a similar concern with my 9.9 Merc.. It was first thing this year, after having the motor unused for about 2 years. I forgot to consider the fogging oil that I used when I put the motor away.
