I am going to pull boat off trailer today I need to build the cribbing for the bow. Do you just set the boards on top of each other or do you have to screw or nail them together or will the weight of the hull be good enough? It is a 190 candia 4.3 omc cobra dry weight is around 2,225lb.s Thanks for replys..... I have tons of cinder blocks but do not think I should use them from what some folks say...... Thanks again.....

Re: Cribbing question

Cinder blocks no but concrete blocks are normally okay.

I would put a few nails and/or screws into the wood so it is all held together.

Re: Cribbing question

We spent some time building wood cribbing out of 2x4s.
3 pieces spaced out on the bottom, then overlap on 90%.
just like they used to do for mobile homes.

I did it this boat was way heavier than my last one but got it off. Used a 3ton jack and a 2 1/2 ton the 2 1/2 just barley worked but it worked. Hopefully get the trailer fixed up and back under the boat Sunday.

Where did you start jacking up the boat to put the supports and cribbing under it? What did you use on the jack to protect the boat bottom? been wanting to do same but been affraid to do it due to lack of know how!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Cribbing question

Ken, I started by lowering the trailer jack and placed the jack stand under the transom with 2x4 on top. Then when you raise the trailer jack the transom will sit on top and back of boat should be off the trailer mine was pertty heavy so once I had it on the stands I used a bottle jack on the center of the transom to lift higher and ajusted the stands a little higher. Then I used two floor jacks with a piece of carpet wrapped around a 2x4 you have to alternate jacks to work by the crossmembers and axle. The trailer rolls real easy so make sure you do not ram it into your floor jack when pulling out the trailer. Go slow and be careful on the cribbing I layed a piece on carpet on top also goood luck.....

Re: Cribbing question

Thanks Mrs, fabulous job. I tried what you did but didn't use a jack and couldn't get it high enough. My boat is heavy too. I appreciate the detailed explaination too. My other problem is I'm on grass/sand so I'm sure I'm getting some sinkage too. Thanks Again.
