Re: cross reference: omc140 starter
catfish1,
There are only a half a dozen different Chevy Starters......
There are the Straight bolt pattern,+ the staggered bolt pattern....
For the Large, or Small Flywheels......
There are the Direct Drive starters(these are the starters you saw on your Daddy's car)....
These are split into Automotive + Marine... The difference being an added plate in the main housing of the Marine starters to Shield the Sparks.....
Then there are the newer Hi-torque, or Mini-Starters(these are the little japanese race car looking things, that are Really the way to Go).....
In these starters the motor is Already sealed from the bendix drive, So, They Are In Fact Interchangable(auto or marine).......

SOOO,huminski is Actually Right...... To a Point....

In my NAPA book it shows your starter;
Reman......$205.00 list $126.49 jobber #18-5900
New........$250.05 list $155.82 jobber #18-5911
New MiniStarter..$236.34 list $150.64 jobber #18-5913
In the Jegs catalog they start at about $140. + Go Up from there.....

If you "Sweet Talk" your NAPA guy, you Should be able to get down between the two prices I listed.....
