Our archery Deer season starts in about a month. Dad just ordered a Excaliber Equionox, Lite stuff package, crossbow that I recommended ( but did'nt think he'd shell out the $$$$ for  ). Anyone own an Excaliber crossbow and if so what do you think of them? Any Crossbow opinions welcomed, they were only permitted here recently and I've shot a few but never owned or hunted w one. I have taken lots of deer w my Matthews Switchback bow though.

Re: Crossbows

Purchased a Barnett C5, but have only hunted with it a few times, no deer seen yet.

If anyone gets a compound crossbow, make sure it has a cocking mechanism. I'm fairly burly and no way can I **** this one by hand.

I no longer have the eyesight for a bow/arrow sight, so a crossbow, with a scope, is making life better.

Crossbows will be quite popular.

Re: Crossbows

Dad's in the same boat mscher, his eyesight is not what it used to be and he ruined his a shoulder FLY FISHING!! years ago to the point of surgery, so a bow is out of the question. I hope he can **** this 225lb. recurve crossbow. I spoke to him about going to a dealer 45mins. away this weekend to handle/shoot a few before buying, last night but he went ahead and ordered it today from Cabellas!! It comes w a 3x6 lighted scope I think and should be great if he can **** it and all the reviews are accurate. He will have almost 2 months more of hunting season than waiting for Blackpowder and gun season and that's his motivation for archery. He is burly too and once was very strong, The pulley type rope cocker that comes w the CB reduces the 225 to 112.5 lbs. split to both hands so I hope he can **** it w/o hurtin himself..................PS....... Excaliber is a Canadian company so I expect some replies from you northern guys who may have experience w them or know someone who does, and look forward to puttin my hands on it and shooting it. :)

Re: Crossbows

I have a 150lb crossbow it will put the arrow through a deer. The heavier ones are for larger game so could save a few $$ by going to a 150 draw crossbow. As far a a cocking mech, can make your own easy enough

Re: Crossbows

Thanks for the replies, Dad saw a video of a woman cocking the Equinox w the rope cocker and I guess he figures if she can do it, so can he ! He's tracked the shipment and it's in town now so we might be assembling and shooting it today. I told him if it's too much poundage for him I might have to buy it from him and he can get a lower poundage one, But my wife will have a fit if she gets wind of this idea .........This package comes w a rope cocker, scope, 4 bolts and a quiver, But not a restringing yoke. I'm wondering if my layered, block type bow target will stop the bolts and will put a bag target in front of it to be safe while sighting in the scope. Maybe post some pics of the new missile launcher!

Re: Crossbows

He got the CB today and had it assembled when I got off work. He has no trouble cocking it ,( besides having the safety on the first 3 times he tried to **** it w the rope/pulleys) ! We sighted in the scope at 25yrds. w 4 shots!!. He's tickled and going out tomorrow to shoot it at longer distances and set the the scopes other elevation marks at 30, 40, 50yrds. I'm impressed w the design, quality, and how quiet it is. It's also very lightweight.
