crossflow v4 lower unit compatibility

I have a 1977 johnson 140 (14077TLS) and a 1990 johnson 115 (VJ115TLASB) I want to put the lower unit off the 115 on the 140 as the 115 has bad piston and 140 a bad lower unit. Can anyone advise if these are compatible.

It'll work but we gotta make some linkage changes. You'll need the intake and related shift linkage from the 1990 motor.

Thanks for the welcome and the quick reply Dhadley I guess I know what I will be doing tonight. I was concerned due to information I was told about driveshaft spline compatibility.

Lol! No, the splines are the same. Actually the splines are the same on your V4's and V6's and V8's. Just in case you decide to run a V8 case some day.
