Drivers license and birth certificate will work, but a Passport really speeds up the process.

Getting into Canada is no problem. Getting back into the USA will require a passport after 1/1/07 but currently you need convincing ID as a US Citizen.

As Crusty Dude says, a certified copy of your birth certificate plus a photo ID like a drivers license should do it.

Be prepared to get hassled about bringing the parts in. May be duties to pay.

Good luck. :)

Yes, have all the paperwork on the parts for sure and like JB said, maybe duties on the parts also.
All I ever had to have was my drivers license to go across and back.

Ya don't need a thing.....
The border policy is: Come on in & don't forget your Mexican flag!
;) :p
Actually what JB said is a little closer to the truth.....
I have a passport, so it ain't a problem......JK

OMC, JB's right on. I go back and forth all the time. Just got back in Ca. from US last night, gone 12 days (yea I know I was missed :D :D ).

I bought a lot of tools and another table saw, laser level, Gen and also bought back a travel trailer my son gave me (wife sold the house while gone - building starts next week), had to haggle a value on the trailer, had reciepts for everything else. Easy to get personal use items back - just be able to prove price; receipts or some basis of value. We have to pay the GST, 7%; $258.00 for me. You might have to pay a sale tax.

My understanding, talked to US and Ca. Customs, farm machinery and parts don't have much restrictions. Unless you get a -ss agent then it doesn't matter, they will give you a hard time.

You might stop on the US side and talk to them about what you are bringing back and what to expect. Out here, West, they are really helpful when you ask before bringing things across, either direction.

I find if I have everything in order it's easy, they appricate it as many don't have a clue on what's required.

I go back and forth quite a lot in the Buffalo area, Peace Bridge, Rainbow, Whirlpool, etc. I have never had any problem at all with just my license as picture ID. I never take anything I don't declare and I have heard the stories about not letting you take tools over and that sort of thing. I have been very lucky and have never been hasseled at all by either side.

Make sure you have a valid receipt for the parts and a contact telephone number just in case the customs people want to verify things. Your photo license will be fine. Where are you intending on crossing? The crossing at the NY Thruway is not too bad and I have been through it alot.

Bob

My in-laws are Canadian and we go back and forth all the time. All you need for now is your driver's license; I've never been asked for anything more yet, or had unreasonable delays. If you have a copy of your birth certificate or some other official ID, that will speed things along.

Tell the customs officer that you just dropped off a load of illegals and you are heading back home for another load. it wont matter which border you crose at if you are goign back into the USA it will be US customers officers so you don't have to worry about a french speaking customs officer.

I travel to Toronto about once a month, and my drivers license has always done the trick.Just be nice and if the customs officer is female, make her think that she is beautiful.
