Cruising RPM’s

I have a 1973 Nissan/crysler diesel engine in my 36’ Gibson houseboat. What would be an ideal cruising RPM for this engine?

A service manual would list Wide Open Throttle (WOT) RPMs.

Implied question was what are the WOT RPMs compared to the manual

Ok, what does the engine manual list as the engines wide open throttle (WOT) suggested RPM’s? What WOT RPM are you actually getting? How fast is your boat going at WOT?

I’ve never ran it at wide open throttle. I’ve only had the boat out once at the end of last summer. I remodeled it and when I took it out it ran hot. I changed the impeller and let it idle for a while and that fixed that problem but haven’t taken it out since. Probably gonna go for a ride tomorrow

When you serviced the raw water pump, did you find all the missing pieces from the impeller?

You can get a Gibson to almost come up on plane.

What is the model number of the motor?
If we knew that we might be able to find the info

From what I can find for a 1973 Gibson 36' with the chrysler diesel, the max RPM of the motor is 3600 RPM and it puts out 73hp.

Yes sir I did. Cleaned all the little pieces out and installed the new one.

No idea?! It’s a diesel 6 cylinder and has Nissan/crysler on the valve cover

From what I can find for a 1973 Gibson 36' with the chrysler diesel, the max RPM of the motor is 3600 RPM and it puts out 73hp.

If that is the case and the OP actually gets 3600 at WOT, I wouldn’t run more than the 2900-3000 range.
