Cuddy cabin insulated finishes???

Have a 1982 Grady White that is nearing being finished and would like to replace the original white "fake fur" with an insulated wall and ceiling finish. The sun here in central Florida get's hot and hopefully can find something that will insulate and give a nice apealing finished look. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I like to use Dynamat in my cars, works very well at making things quiet, and has some thermal protection. I also like the look of custom made suede panels with suede backed by thin soft foam. Are you sure spending the money insulating your cabin will actually help hold off the heat though? Tinting windows would be a better place to start, and if you don't have air conditioning, better venting would be areas I would spend my money first.

I don't know about the Dyamat idea. There are "Dynamat" logo's all over their product and wouldn't give me the finished cabin look that I'm looking for. I've been kicking around the idea of possibly useing a spray sound proofing like is used on automobile trunks and doors. It seems that it would hide the rough texture of the fiberglass matting of the hull. Has anyone used it before? Thanks for your input "Chargerboy."

Get some luan wood panels, spray on adhesive and headliner material. The headliner material is available at the fabric stores..JoAnnes, etc. You can use other wood free materials (interior paneling) but the luan is fairly light. If you get 1/8 or 3/16 it is very flexible and can be fixed in place easily. Make up strips to cover the screw heads or just spray the adhesive and attach the material over it. As far as insulation, compress some fiberglass under the panels...as long as the panels are fixed pretty tight and covered there should be no problems with it leaking out...

Thanks Rick. There are a lot of curved angles that would be a real pain in the "you know what." Something sprayed would really be ideal for me that has an insulation factor. Maybe something that is a spray foam and then splatter trunk paint over that. Maybe even truck bed liner spray like "Rhinoguard."

Well of course you don't use it on its own lol. Thats why i suggested using the suede on top. A combination of the two will give you some form of insulation, nothing like what we use in our attics here in Canada, more like what you use in Florida houses Have you talked to other people about this insulating idea though? IMHO it's going to waste your money for the 1 degree you might get out of it.

No I haven't talked to anyone yet and that's why I started this thread. Trying to get some idea's. Right now the temps here in Tampa are averaging about 97 degrees farenheit. I plan on putting a small air-conditioner in the fore hatch to get the wife and kids out of the heat. Am also considering insulated backed "astro-turf."
