Cutless bearing

I have a 1990 Cruiser 3270 with v drives. the cutless bearings are worn and should be replaced this fall. I have never seen or replaced these type of bearings or seen them in a repair manual. How are these replaced? Thanks Craig

typically with a 'pusher' sometimes they are really in and are just destroyed out anyway they can be. flange alignment after reinstallation is important for cutlass life.

A cutless bearing is a brass tube with teflon coating on the inside.The shaft rides in that.They are lube by water.Things that kill the cutless bearing,sand or mud in the water and vibration.<br />The shaft will have to be removed,there are one or two set screws that screw from the outside of the strut.Chances are,paint has them fill in.A little sanding about the center and you should find it.Most of the bearing are distroyed when pulled.Yoy must mic the inside of the strut and the shaft too the order the right one for your boat.

I use a hydraulic puller. shaft stays in place .<br /> ya remove the prop, using the same puller, then pop the bearing in and out. usually takes less than an hour with the machine. machine set us back about 3500 dollars but pays for itself. no need for micrometers. a tape measure will tell ya what size bearing ya need. lucky they are fairly standard.
