Good morning, took the boat out saturday what a fantastic day. Ove the winter I replace all fuel lines, vac lines and cleaned all carbs and reset floats. The boat ran fantastic infact hit 5900rpms and 43 miles and hour. First ever. The motor is a 1998 E200TXECM. Checked all compression and all 6 cylinders showed 90-95%. Problem is when you first start it she idles fine but after running, it will start then drops from 700rpms to 200 then cuts off. Starts right back up and when you put into gear and bump it to 900 rpms it stays running. I have done a pressure check on entire fuel system no leaks after rebuild, compression check, wiring check and all is good. It started at the end of season last year. Is timing possibly off? Do I neeed to reset the idle now that all is rebuilt?. The pump ball stays solid during this time. Any help or respnse would be apprieciated. I have a makeshift tank at home that allows me to run motor and create a pressure for exhaust and pull water up through pump.

Sounds like your timing is off. Since you cleaned up all the carbs, why not go the extra step and time her up. I believe the idle speed is set by the idle timing, on that motor.

Re: Cutting off at idle

Thank you, I found timing off 2 degrees at idle and almost perfect at 4800RPMS. I also did a Sync to the motor and wow
