Hi all... Only other (see my other post) known problem with my outboard is when at full or near to full throttle after running there for some time the engine dies completely and almost immediately. It always starts up first time after. It did this about 20 times on the engines last outing (driving about 10miles high throttle all the way) also it seems to coincide with hitting a wave.. although that could be my imagination or coincidence. Engine service did not rectify the problem so any suggestions?
Thanks Joe
Sorry should add.. late 80's/early 90's 2 cyl. 20hp mariner.

Re: Cutting out problem

Saw that in another thread on here and the guy pulled the suction tube on the gas tank and cleaned the screen on the bottom of it. Try that.

Would do but portable gas tank, and no screen (i dont think) engine was mounted on 4m inflatable.

Re: Cutting out problem

Hi :

I am having the same issue with my 7.5 outboard Merc. I'm taking the motor in to the mechanic today, so when I find out what the problem is, I will post my answer. I was very luck to make it home the other evening when I went walleye fishing - I drove home successfully at half throttle(I was 4Km away from the dock).

Re: Cutting out problem

I had a similar problem in my 20hp mercury, there was a pin hole in the diaphram in the fuel pump, would only die at full throttle and would restart first try.

Fire your mechanic, get a book, and check it out. You can find plenty of help for specific questions here.

hope it helps
