Re: CWD transmitted by eating meat !

Venison for supper twice last week and it is again on the menu this week. However I do believe I will discontinue injecting it...At least for now.

Hope this doesent create panic until further study's are done and it is proven a real threat. As for 100 people worlwide on the CJD...Hardly a threat in my book, I do things on a daily basis that claim far more lives than that. they start talking percentages then they have my attention!

Just my take on it, but thanks for the link....I'll bet this will be showing up in many outdoor publications in the month's to come.

Neumanns, Deer,Elk,& Moose are staples in our
family diet. CWD,has not been a problem here in
Alberta yet. I believe their is a deer Cull going
on right now looking for infected populations
in wildlife management areas close to this zone.

Well, first you have to get an infected animal. Very low chance of that.

Then you have to shoot it. Odds even worse because an infected animal would behave in a way that would make any experienced woodsman suspicious.

Bottom line? I think your odds of winning the lottery with one ticket in a lifetime are better.

JB, Although there is an extremely low chance
of shooting an infected deer at this time. In
the early stages of the disease it may be next to
impossible to detect an infected animal by its
behavior which is what is troubling to me.

Besides, I think my own behavior may be an indication
that I may have been in contact with some kind of
brain disorder already. :D

There are specialists that will certify to anything.

I would not consider that article to be fact, it is a point of view they have supported to their desired end.

With all the mad cow and anti-venison articles, I'd believe it's anti-hunting anti-meat propaganda.

:) "WRONG"!!!! There is a big chance of shooting a deer with CWD and you and I eating it!!! "HAVE YOUR DEER TESTED"!!! it is spreading through out the country!!! A few years back it was just a mid west to western problem with Elk and now deer and it is spreading EAST!!!! One deer in connecticut this past hunting season was found to have cwd!!!! Wisconsin has a big problem with it in deer!!!!

My friends on a Wyoming hunting trip this year not knowing, brought back infected deer meat, they received a call from the bioligist and they had to throw out a couple hundred pounds of meat!!!Out of the 5 deer they brought back, 2 were infected!!!! i would have thrown all of it away!!!

Also does anybody remember that a fella out in the mid west a few years back, was sick and wasting away and his family stated that his main meat source was elk and deer, the family thought it was wasting disease but medical doctors hurried it under the rug so to speak!!! I'm no doctor but I believe it was cwd, who am I to question a doctor!!! ;)

How many cases of CWD have been diagnosed in humans ?

Could this be a PETA conspiracy?

Right. Rabies does not exist either. Did you know that Feline Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, Feline Infectious Peritonitis, Feline Panleukopenia, and Feline Leukemia, were drempt up by a Veterinarian just to get himself some business. Did you know lyme disease is also a myth. It's all one great big animal saving, money making conspiracy.

If you think the rewards are worth the risk, eat it. If not, then don't.

Re: CWD transmitted by eating meat !

There is an area near where I hunt that is a real hotspot. 5-10% are showing up positive. All dear from my area get tested but the test is not definitive for young deer that are not in the advanced stages of CWD. Hunters have really dropped off and this year I didn't even have to buy a license to shoot one. If I get a positive deer I get $200.

WI DNR has a real PR and fiscal problem on their hands as a result of CWD. This report will drop even more hunter numbers.

not to sure if my brother came across a deer that had it, his neighbor called him over and it seems a deer was running into trees then fell to the ground and started doing donuts with its front legs . they shot it and left it in the woods. this was just last week and i live in new jersey.

Their is not a single confirmed case of CWD being
transmitted to humans.

The disease does appear to be spreading in Canada.
We had our first confirmed infection in deer this
year in Alberta. It has been found in wild deer
for the last number of years in Saskatchewan.
Local Elk farms have had their entire herds culled.

Just wait. CWD came to WI via "game farm" deer that were transported from ? The disease spreads rapidly.

They used to say the same thing about Mad Cow disease in the UK NOSLEEP.
It's kind of sad how they knew for years mad cow was being transmitted by feeding animal by- products back to the cows by our experts at the USDA. Up until 2 years ago they were still allowing slaughter blood to be used in milk replacer for dairy calves. Slaughter blood? Isn't that a by-product? That's how your gubbermint operates when profits get in the way

Don't need to worry, don't eat wild game. I used ot love venison when I was a kid. As I matured my tastes changed. I have never cared for squirrel, rabbit, etc and larger game was rarely in my diet. Tried elk once, didn't care for it and don't care for venison at all anymore. I wish the best for all you who do like game, and thanks for the info.

I agree with you, but know this... Heard a doctor talking about this a year or so ago, Europe has found a way to test for CJD in people by sampling tonsils and something else, I forget (lymph nodes?). They have put estimates at about 15,000 people infected in Europe with CJD. They don’t know when/how it will manifest, or if it ever will. Symptoms seem to be related to how big a dose of infective agent was consumed, and when, i.e. a clock is running and it is running faster for those folks that ate the most infectious material.

Researchers then went and dug up a bunch of folks that died from Alzheimer and tested their tonsils. Guess what they found? Yup, CJD.

At that time, the doctor was saying it is virtually impossible to get an autopsy in the US of someone that has been diagnosed with Alzheimer because of the likelihood CJD will be discovered, and if it is, the entire autopsy facility is immediately condemned, a total 100% loss. If you don’t look for it, you can’t find it.

That article says the disease is transmitted by a prion. In reality, it is not known if prions cause the disease or are a symptom of it. Researchers are arguing both ways. Either way, the prions (pieces of mutant protein) should be avoided, and the best way to do that is to avoid eating an infected animal.

If it turns out the prion is the cause of the disease, it is the first and only infectious protein known to man, and we don’t have a clue how it infects, what the mechanism is, or why it happens. Up until now, all infections have been either viral or bacterial. There are very strong arguments as to why a protein cannot infect, but at the end of the day, we just don’t know what is going on.

Re: CWD transmitted by eating meat !

CWD occurs naturally in isolated cases in wild deer
population. Although it is rare. Its a Little
like Anthrax occurring in rare cases in cattle
herds.
