Re: Cyl #4 not firing

Time to revisit this one....

I got the new power pack installed. I have no spark on #4. I also went ahead and tried another coil on that cylinder.... no spark. I am at a loss here. Any other ideas what might cause #4 not to fire?

I'm sure you checked the plug wire, right.

Yep... it has a brand new coil on it, which has no problem firing when swapped with another coil.

Did you dress the coil ground with a file?

Check the wires coming from the stator to the powerpack?

Check the magnets on the inside of the flywheel? (longshot)

All grounds are well cleaned

Have not checked the stator wires. How is this done?

Have not pulled the flywheel yet.

Re: Cyl #4 not firing

It seems to me that the stator wouldn't be a problem because he's firing on 3 of the four cylinders. What's the chance of a flywheel magnet being bad? ( I have had to replace my flywheel because the magnets are glued on the inside and broke loose and damaged the stator .Not sure if yours are cast in or glued in. Might want to peek under the flywheel.) So that really only leaves the timer base "trigger" or the orange lead from the pack to the coil, the coil, and the plug. That's all that's to the sequence. Check AC voltage at the orange wire to ground while cranking or running. As in the before mentioned test procedures, there should be around 150V on that wire to the coil while connected to the coil. That would tell you if you're even getting voltage out of the pack to that cylinder. The orange primary wire from the pack to the coil and all connections must be clean and tight.

dont know what kind of coils you have.but if you are using the same primary wire(small one) you might want to be sure its ok,the newer coils just plug like a spark plug the older come with a new primary, also check any plugs the primary plugs to as well as primary from the pack

Re: Cyl #4 not firing

Well I tried testing for voltage on the orange wire from the pack to the coils. I keep getting .03V on all four coils.

Also, now cylinder #2 and #4 are not firing... Things are getting worse

Re: Cyl #4 not firing

I have a spark tester I bought at the auto parts store. It's set to jump a 7/16th gap.

It is plugged into the plug wire and the otherside is grounded.

I am sure you checked this but are you sure the spark tester is grounded correctly?

just for poops and grins, swap the powerpacks,I have run across some real odd stuff that many would say is impossible, another test, disconnect your main engine harness, remove all plugs, jump power to the starer direct and do a spark test, let us know what you find

I guess I am going to start over with the tests and see what happens

Re: Cyl #4 not firing

ok did some tests.

Checked the sensor coils. Got 12.0ohm and 12.2 from them

Checked the charge coil and had 634ohm

But as I said earlier... I have no spark at all anymore. Is there anything else I can test here at home to try and figure it out. I hate the thought i paying labor fees.... but I think I might not have a choice.

Re: Cyl #4 not firing

Did you by any chance try the spark test at 1/8" vs. the 7/16"?

Could show a weak spark, different symptom then no spark. Also what kind of meter are you using, analog or digital?

I will try that tetst tomorrow. I am using a digital meter to get the ohms readings
