Cylinder honing

Hi Guys,

How do I hone a cylinder. What tools do I use? Should I be going to a shop or is it something reasonable to tackle? If its not too tough I would like to try it myself. This is for my '87 70HP mercury. Thanks.

The powerhead has to be 100% disassembled and you need a cylinder hone and electric drill. You should also have a bore gauge to see if the cylinder is out of round beyond spec or you're wasting your time just honing. Considering it's age, I'd put that at almost certain.
