cylinder numbering on 89 v4 yamaha

I have a stupid question. I have searched online but haven't found the answer. I need to know the way the cylinders are numbered on a 89 yamaha 115hp. I would assume that looking from the back of the motor 1 and 3 are on the right hand side; however, I don't know. I don't see any reference to it in the sorry repair manual that I have. I am not a boat mechanic; however, I have worked on autos, motorcycles and atvs for years.

correct...starboard= #1 & #3...port= # 2 & #4

1# is always the taller one, just look on the motor and you will see
