Re: cylinder psi on 73, 18hp evenrude

I just checked it and I have 120psi in the top and 115 psi in the bottom. Is this a good psi for this engine?

That is very good.

EDIT: There's no published psi spec for these engines - there's too many variables. The only spec is that the two cylinders vary no more than by 10%, and generally speaking over 90psi is good (depends on the engine though, some healthy V-6 test somewhat lower for example).

Yea and it runs great too. It really impressed me with the power that came out of it. Is it true that the 18 and the 25 of the same about year(early seventies)are the same engine just different hoods? Thats what a local macanic told me anyway.

Not entirely true. They look identical and of course have the same design heritage, but the crankshaft, block, head and pistons are a little different. Same bore and stroke though. There's been some recent discussions over in Outboard Non-Repair Topics if you're interested in some further reading.

I just checked it after it warmed up a bit and the top was 110 and the bottom was 105, still pretty good?

Yup. ;)
Anything over 90 is good on that one. It seems to me that anything over 100 is very good.
