I'm going to be honing the cylinders of my Merc 850 with a deglazing tool designed to be used with a hand drill.

Is there an alternative I can use to honing oil? It is rather difficult to find and the machine shops I've called don't sell it and aren't intersted in giving or selling some of theirs.

Also, I will be measuring the bore with an inside caliper then in turn measuring that with a vernier caliper. Not the most accurate method but the other thing that's difficult or too expensive to get is an inside micrometer. ...but I digress...

If I find that the cylinder is slightly tapered or barrelled can I correct it by honing? Are there any techniques to doing this? Do I just linger in the area where I need material removed and check the measurement often?
