I bought this nice bought with major engine problems but get the block back from the machine shop this Friday. As I go through the engine assembly and re-installation in my head, I begin to worry about the stern drive. The PO had the drive completely rebuilt by a reputable marine shop prior to beaching it and letting water in through what I discovered as a bad exhaust flapper. It hasn't started since and the the rust on the cylinder tops seized the engine badly. It sat and froze it storage for 3 years where freezing temps are rare but happen a couple of times per year.
My new concern is that the drive wasn't drained. I see from the service manual that a couple of water traps could exist in the hoses is the upper housing. Hopefully they were partially gravity drained and if not the flexibility of the hose took the expansion.
Do drives freeze easily if not drained?
Thanks
