damn this engine of mine!

im having some bad luck with this evinrude 20 hp 1975<br /> it was making a rythmic banging in forward gear now then nothing but its stuck in reverce...wont do newtrel...its gearbox or something <br />any ideas...

It would help if you had added this to your previous post rather than starting at zero, Niander.<br /><br />Either your gearbox or your shift linkage is coming apart.<br /><br />Don't try to use the engine any more until you have fixed it. If you keep ignoring it and trying to use it you only make it worse.<br /><br />Good luck.

yep thx ive already decided to take it to a pro to fix...and i aint going to sea backwards! ...if it was stuck in forwards maybe <br />thx 4 reply

ok out of interest ill tell ya what it was...i took it apart the cluch dog[correct word]? is worn.. all other gears etc are perfect <br />anyone think ill be able to get the part from anywhere??1975 ervinrude twin 20 hp<br />im in scotland btw<br />anyways im gunna build up wit weld and reprofile[i can c this has been done before]<br />until i get a new part ...as a final if that dont work ill fix it perminantly in forward gear <br />if it still jumps out

I once had a '72 (?) johnson 25 that would pop out of forward gear. I turned the shifter dog around to wear on the other side and it got me anouther couple of years. Just a thought.<br /><br />Good luck,<br /><br />Duck L.

are they?<br />well anyways i fixed it ...very carefull use of welder and grinder on that high precision cluchdog...she dont jump out anymores <br />ill get a new part if it does it again...but i still have a problem with carb in that it needs choke to take full throtal <br />then she flys ...
