To the OP: If your motor has more than two cylinders, sounds like you have more work to do. :D

You guys are a bunch of wimps. I 'member a time long ago there was this 'sculpture' on display at our local mall in Miami. It was a bunch of mower & motor parts all welded haphazardly together. Had a hand crank on it that - yup you guessed it - was wired to a magneto. Crank that thing around and WHAM! Heh heh heh.

For some reason my little brother, who's never been quite right(before or since), seemed to be immune to it. That crazy lil sob could crank that thing around'n around and never take his hands off?! Won more than a couple bets I remember ...

so im in waiste deep water and the tester flopped over, no big deal right? Well my buddy didnt see this and also didnt hear me say stop

I got news for ya, not only did your buddy see the tester flop over, but he also heard you say to stop... At that exact moment he remembered when you (___fill in blank___) and decided it was time for paybacks. :D Either that, or he thought it would be funnier than 'ell

I was helping my buddy fix his car long ago and after doing a bunch of things it wouldn't start. I was sitting in the car (hand on the ignition key) when my friend says hey what's this,,, as I see him holding the end of the coil wire............................................... Oh, I thought you said hit it :D

As long as someone mentioned 110V + wiring. . . I went on a mission's trip to Honduras last Feb., and since I work at a power plant, I was voted the team electrician. "No, no -- I MAKE electricity, not wire it." I still knew more about it than anyone else, so. . . It's definitely 3rd world down there! Need an outside plug in? Just run some 12-2 wire from the meter base to your outlet! Then put a piece of tin over it for a rain shield! I nailed my self more than once that week. I'm up on a ladder wiring lights and a fan in the bathroom and say whoops when I almost drop a tool. So this one gal pokes her head in the door and with a smile says "Joel, did you just shock yourself again? I know you did!" So why were you smiling??? We get home and the first thing she says to her mom -- "Joel shocked himself 6 times -- I counted!" Everyone else was finished the last day and showered up when I ask for a volunteer to hold a hot wire from the meter so I could strip it. The look on all those faces was priceless! The husband of "smiley" came over to help while I took my double wrapped with electrical tape utility knife and stripped the insulation He did help hold the wire when I took my double wrapped cresent wrenches and tighten the clamp to splice two wires together. There's more, but that's probably enough! Good trip!

All this talk of shocking yourselves reminds me, up untill a couple of years ago our house had the alu siding on the front. Well the house has a bad ground or something going on. On damp evenings i could touch the side of the house from the porch and get a healthy dose of current running thru me. Was a great party trick, my buddies got to the point that they helped me reside the house with vinyl so I would some shocking the 'ell out of them. Been hit by all kinds of different voltages in my lifetime(could explain why I'm a little off) so the tingle would'nt bother me. OH yeah i know the feeling of picking youself off the ground after messing with a automotive coil. Dont think about these things when timimg your old ford.

Re: Dang... That hurt... Twice....

dad has a collection of needle nose pliers and side cutters with holes blown in them from trying to work on hot wires, and accidentally touching the side of the panel box in the house.

One time I was holding an exhaust pipe while a guy welded a flange to the end of it. Wasn't grounded to the bench that well, and as he went, the tingle in my arm kept getting stronger until my arm spazzed and I dropped the pipe. Went to check my watch a few hours later and found it to be about 8hrs ahead. TIME TRAVEL!!!!

I thought that was how to properly test coils and coil wires?
If they zap you, you have spark.
That's how I do it.
No need for fancy tools. lol

Re: Dang... That hurt... Twice....

I did this about a week ago while running my motor on the muffs in the driveway. Standing in a puddle while for some dumb arse reason I layed my hand on the number 3 plug wire. I found out quickly why I had a miss.

Years back when in college we had a board that diagrammed how an ignition system worked on a 4.6L V8 ford motor. No one really cared for the instructor too much so we ran a wire from on of the plugs through the ceiling tiles and down with the bundle of projector wires to his classic all steel desk. The look on his face when he touched it for the third time was priceless. The cussing that the culprits got was well worth it and deserved.

I have been hit by a magneto from a USCS sprint car, hurt like a muther ####

Re: Dang... That hurt... Twice....

I've worked on many a hot 110 volt circuit... something you can do if you're careful. The deal is: if it bites me, I'm not allowed to whine about it. After all, it's not like I didn't know. Caveat: 220 volts can kill.

For whatever reason , but I know it was a good one , (I respect electricity and WAS pretty good at working on live circuits), I was tightening a screw on a live circuit duplex outlet , and accidently , crossed my hand over hot and ground.....my hand clenched , with one of my fingers over the mounting 'ears' , and cut me nearly to the bone! Well , I have never worked on a live circuit again after that !

Re: Dang... That hurt... Twice....

Years ago my partner and I were installing carports. Well the first day we got the pans up and the supports. We came back the next day to finish and had to install the downspouts. Well that night it had snowed about 2" and in the morning it was melting. My partner is standing on a 6' glass ladder drilling away with a holesaw, water pouring down his arm dripping off his elbow. Well, he would have been all right but he slipped and reached out and grabbed the steel column WRONG I kicked the ladder out from under him and when he stopped shaking he couldn`t stop thanking me. I later told him I had to think about it there for a minute weather or not to do it right away. We`re still friends to this day and sometimes I still regret my decision. lol
