Wouldnt the person who rented the PWC for the kid be somewhat liable as well???? I know the ages of the kids my kids play with. How about next time we hand the kid a stick of dynamite instead. This a good example of why there are laws.

That is a sad article. I have a feeling the driver who caused the injury and the other genius who refused to help, will be spending some time in the "Stoney Lonesome", with Bubba the "Love Sponge." I figure a year or two might get their attention. ...Bob in Calif...

Even more likely is that nothing will happen to the kids besides a slap on the wrist. A lot of the times the parents are finacially responsible for what the minors do. The wild card is the rental place and if their insurance covers stuff like this. Kids are not held accountable any more like they should be!! Let's hope these two grow up and get a conscience (SP?). God, I hope the guy that got hit recovers well.

Like i said before ,boats need to be treated as cars. make a minimum age, and enforce it. make people take an extra test to get the watercraft license. this could be put on a regular license. OK license have different codes and restrictions. this could easily be made into one. pass the test get the restriction of no boating removed. simple as that. this will not entirely stop all of the accidents, but this one could have been avoided, along with others.

Being kids didnt have a whole lot to do with this, many "adults" would have had the same reaction (run away scared). 16 is legal driving age in texas.<br /><br />There should be some sort of licenseing required to drive a jetski or boat. Something simple they could do on the internet. Some indepedent agency could come up with license for jet skis, and then the rental agencies could require all drivers to have this. This would keep the government out of it.<br /><br />But remember, there is no schooling required to pass a drivers test (at least in Texas), just read the book and go.<br /><br />Ken

Ken, the problem here is that there are rules in place, must be 16 must have passed boaters safety course. These Kids forged the documents and the poor rental guy will probably be taken to the cleaners by some shister lawyer.

It's interesting, the boy is from CT. and guess what. Not only do you have to posses a boating license in CT, but a special license for personal watercraft is required as well.
