As you have undoubtedly seen/heard on the news, Washington state has suffered severe power outages due to a wind storm last week.....
We are expecting toget hit again tonight witha lesser storm....
Alot of trees that are on the brink of falling will probably cause more outages in its aftermath.....
Anyway, in an effort to keep warm & have hot meals, many have taken to bbqing & running portable generators indoors.....
This has resulted in at least 6 fatalities & over 1,000 people being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning.....
The Seattle Times has posted warnings in six languages (including English) as to the danger of indoor use of these items......
Wouldn't common sense tell you not to do this?
Or is it the manufacturers fault for not printing warnings in every possible language? I would think that all of the items would have come with picture warnings at least....
What say you?......JK

I'll bite, I like

One language, english. Can't read it, learn it. If I moved to another country, I'd have to learn their's to read the warnings or order dinner from a menu.

But if these people are so stupid as to run generators indoors, and dying because of it, I'd say they are helping cleanup the gene pool.

Look at the instruction books, look like Sears/Roebuck cataloque with so many different languages in them.
One has got to be the right one I would think.

Anyway, the paper had the warning on the front page today & people have been posting fliers in known areas that have large amounts of non English speaking citizens, so we will see......JK

Is the data on the immigrant vs. citizen available yet? I spoke out in favor of an official language on dat udda thread, so you should know what say me. FWIW though, I have done plenty of stupid stuff when there were in fact warnings available . . . read or unread.

I don't think it has anything to do with language. It's stupidity, plain and simple. Storms like this are gods way of clearing out the riff raff. It's just plain common sense not to put something that smokes in an enclosed area. If you don't have that common sense I say good riddance.

No, 4 of them were a family :'(....
The parents were from Viet Nam.....
Some of thier children were born here, some not.....
It did not mention their status...
The other 2 had Hispanic sounding names....
Again, no status.....

As reasonably educated and usually pompus Americans, it is our iInalienable right to look down on all of the "stupid" immigrants who are picking our vegatables, gutting our hogs and cleaning our toilets.

Sure, they are doing some higer pay jobs, but for the most part, they do the cr@ppy work we will not do.

It is very possible and likely, that many immigrants do not even read or write in their own native language. They are trying to survive in a world of things, they have probably never even dreamed of.

We could give them a break, but then I guess it is part of Darwins theory, to pick on the weak.:^
