I've recently started using my dash cooler in my boat for its intended purpose, as a cooler and not a catch all or glove box as the previous owner used it, and for the longest time my passengers continued to use it as.
I do have a nice 60qt rollaround, that is great for long trips, or over night camping. But just for a day on the water, it is really convenient and saves a lot of space just having this already there.
one problem... it doesn't hold ice very well. Or at all really. From what I can tell is that it is mostly just a fiberglass "box" with star board lid, not insulated (or not that I can tell at least)
Does anyone have any tricks or tips to keeping this cold? Also it's self draining, and the drain runs to a thru-hull, which almost imediately after putting ice in, I see it draining. Should I plug the drain to keep some of the ice water in? Basically, my stuff gets cold, and it'll stay cool for a while, but after a couple of hours, there is no more ice to cool anything else down.
suggestions?
