I have a 1976 mercury 115 which has carbon build up-I am planing to use seafoam with the gas mixture but wondered about spraying deep creep (sea foam) directly into the carburators and if I need to remove the faceplate -and- or filters before doing so-I am very new to boating

Re: de-carb mercury outboard

I just did my 88 Merc. I didn't put any in the gas. I pulled the faceplate and sprayed the deep creep into the carbs a little at a time while it was running and warm. Then I flooded it out by spraying it continually into all the carbs. Then I pulled the plugs and sprayed some more into the cylinders and let it sit for about 45 minutes. Started it up and smoke ensued.

Haven't gotten to put it in the water since I did it but it does idle and start better. I did it a week or so ago on my skeeter and it starts better, idles better, and seems to run better overall (less smoke on start up too).
