What exactly is this de-carb thing I keep reading about? If an engine hasnt been de-carb'd in a long time, what type of problems if any may arise? I am chasing a hard to start cold engine issue, and a few cylinders missing. I am ready to do some serious multimeter testing but now wondering if I should do this de-carb thing just to ensure i am on track with simple maintenance prior to ripping into wires. I appreciate the feed-back.

Re: De-Carb?

Usually a decarb is done with a products called Seafoam or Deep Creep. It is basically solvent and light oil mixed. The mixture is run through the motor and/or sprayed into the carb until it stalls. Let it sit for a while and soak, start and run the heck out of it. The solvent soaks into the carbon deposits in/on the rings and frees them up. The procedure is in the top secret file at the top. It prevents all the internals gumming up with carbon. Essential maintenance in my opinion.

the 87 175 has a primer solenoid, i do not know if it has the schrader valve, that you can connect the BRP Engine Tuner can to. if it does you can just connect the BRP Engine Tuner, to the schrader valve, rather than removing the air silencer.
