Re: Dead T V

I have a 50" Panasonic, I checked it buy putting my hand on the back of the set by the vents and could only feel a slight amount of heat, I then checked the other components and found them to be very warm. I'm not sure how the heat thing fits into picture quality though, kind of a non issue to me.

Re: Dead T V

My brother -in- law just purchased a Sony 46 inch plasma and had an anti-glare screen put on it. When he was here on Sunday watching the football games, he commented that it looked more blured than my Sony 42 inch rear projection tv. I haven't seen it yet, just his words, doesn't sound overly pleased at this point. He set it up him self because Best Buy wanted an outragous price to do it for him, now he's thinking he might just have to give them a call.

You must mean LCD since I don't believe Sony is in the PLASMA market (at least not in the US).......and if they were Best Buy doesn't carry them. If thats the case an anti glare screen is useless.

The bad picture could be many things........could be on the analog channel and not the HD channel, tv might not even be getting an hd signal, cables hooked up wrong, etc etc etc. Without knowing the setup its impossible to tell.

$100 for a a video setup isnt "outrageous" if you have no clue what you are doing.

PLASMA! I got my Panasonic 50" in early '06, and the picture is still perfect. As far as heat goes, the Directv HD reciever gets hotter than the TV. One tip: keep the brightness down to what's required for the room lighting, not only will it be easier on the eyes, it will generate less heat and use less power.

I cannot add anything more on the subject, just what he had said while sitting in my living room. I have not idea what Sony makes. I do have a 42 rear projection set and a 36 inch tube model, the tube model must weigh 200 lbs.

Give your brother a call and find out what he has if you could. I tried to find a Sony 46" plasma set online and found one, when I went back to find it again and get the model number I couldn't pull it up. I did find a 42" and 50", but they didn't appear to be typical consumer items, the price on the 42" was $7,999.

I don't know about the heat issue, but one of the main reasons I went LCD over Plasma was power consumption. Cheaper to operate an LCD than plasma and the picture quality gap has closed to pretty much to be non-existent. Find what you like for the price you want to pay and go for it. :)

Another thing to consider is Calibration. If you have never seen what a calibrated TV looks like, it is really worth taking a look at a side by side comparison.

It saves on power consumption and increases the life of the TV.......and it makes it look better :)

True Calibration has nothing to do with the settings you can access through the settings menu or a dvd. You can have two identical TVs with the same settings and the calibrated set will be noticeably different (i.e. skin tones are natrual, colors are natrual, fine details are visible......where for example a shirt will have pin stripes and they only are visible on the calibrated set.)

I am looking on line at two TVs Toshiba and Sony they are both on sale at close to the same price, Is Sony a better quality TV than the Toshiba?

And what is the difference on the Sony L series and the M series the M series is $ 70.00 more than the L series.

IMHO, you should compare them in person side by side before you order.

There's no way to tell how they look without seeing them side by side and you need the exact model numbers to compare spec's. Frequenlty you can get models that are newer or have upgrades you can't find in a store when you shop online.
