Something no one ever wants to see. But looking at the video I really wonder how the collision happened in the first place :confused:

How can a news team report on something like this and not go into the detail of how the accident happened.

They said they collided. Who was drunk or who was speeding or who wasnt paying attention those details may take time to find out and argued later in court. Last week end in upper SC 4 were killed in 2 separate boats crashes. Sad news for sure.

All the detail won't be released until the investigation is complete. They did say that the owner just bought the boat, so maybe being unfamiliar with the vessel had something to do with it. This is a very small lake, like 200 acres, 35 mph speed limit during the day, No Wake after sunset. Sad indeed. Thats why PFDs are required on mine ALWAYS.

So another case of no pfd.

Anyone notice that in the video, there is no dive flag, and half the people on the dive pontoon are also not wearing pfd's ?

Wow, not too much damage to the boat. Kind of makes you think that a PFD would've been the hero of the day. Too bad people have to learn about safety this way.

Maybe, maybe not, but smarter to wear one than not.

Depends on the age of the person, and the local or state ordinances.

A pfd sure would have made locating her a whole lot easier, and may have saved her life.

Really is unforgivable for people involved in rescue operations not to have them on, and use a dive flag.

PA Law;

h) Children 12 years of age and younger shall wear an approved Type I, II, III or V PFD while underway on any boat 20 feet or less in length and all canoes and kayaks. The operator of the watercraft violates this subsection if he does not cause a child 12 years of age or younger to wear a PFD as required by this subsection.
