wants warning light installed, cannot hear alarm. just checking if i can use an LED type, directly off the horn wires?

It would seem that if the light & horn are the same voltage - it would work. Not totally sure though .......

Should be able to get a 12 volt LED but you'd need to check the max volts they'd withstand esp if using on a system with an unregulated rectifier. (14V probably!)

If you have to you can calculate the value of a series resistor, R, to use in conjunction with an ordinary LED from
R= (Vs-Vf)/If
where Vf is the forward volts spec'd for the LED
Vs is is the supply volts (better make that the maximum that you'd expect)
and If is the forward current at Vf.
