Dealin with Spiders

My boat sits in the water in the river all summer long. When it sits overnight and especially over the weekdays I am gone, the spiders just have a heyday. My new toons have spider poop droippings on them and they and the webs are just everywhere. It is a real PITA.

I have read a bunch of different methods for dealing with Spiders, such as using a lemon based soap to clean the boat as spiders are repelled by lemon. There are a bunch of other ideas as well.

I am sure I am not the only one here with this problem. What is your solution?

Sonic pest and insect chasers work great for spiders. You may be able to find a solar one.

Spider Kill 2. Spray the lines before you leave.

I saw a suggestion for using dryer sheets. We put some down in the compartments and let them stick up onto the seats. I lay a few around on the floor as well. I haven't seen a big problem with them after doing this. I just store a big box under the seat and pull a few out each evening when we tie up the boat.

Ok, I have a partial update on this.. Still have incredibly active spiders, but I have found the answer to removing the poop off the aluminum is Simple Green. It cuts right through the crap. No pun intended. I still have not found what takes it off the vinyl, though this more of a minor problem as it is undercover most of the time.

Hope this helps someone..

Re: Dealin with Spiders

My problem is that the spider droppings after cleaned off leave a pinhead size stain on the Ivory seats of my Bennington. 303 vinyl protectant has not helped.

Step #1 is to spray the ceiling of my boathouse with a special insecticide that's discussed in:
spider control, Spider Control, SPIDER CONTROL, spider control, Spider Control, SPIDER CONTROL, spider spray, Spider Spray, SPIDER SPRAY, spider pest control, Spider Pest Control, SPIDER PEST CONTROL, spider treatment, Spider Treatment, SPIDER TREATM

I use Suspend SC against spiders, which is the same stuff as above. Unfortunately it's not available locally.

Step #2 is to buy Sunbrella canvas or equivalent outdoor fabric and make seat covers for the boat. I found enough fabric online for seat covers for just over $100. (Applying the OEM mooring cover is a serious hassle to deal with since we use our boat so often.)

I'll look for it. Thanks. On another note, I did find a way to cut down drastically on the new spiders. in concert with some of the postings above, I sprayed Home defender ( or other spray meant to guard home against spiders and insects) on the toons above the water line and on the cover, bimini and dock areas around the toon. One treatment so far has lasted 3 or more weeks.

Still have a few, but it is 90% less than it was.

We keep our boat on a lift in our dock. We have huge spiders that make webs from the ceiling in the dock down to the boat. They also make them across the walkways on the dock and I always seem to walk right through them -- they stick like crazy. I tried spraying the dock ceiling with citrinila with some Bifen I/T insecticide. Didn't seem to do much to prevent the suckers although the insecticide did kill some of the spiders I saw and sprayed. But the next day, it was back to normal with more webs.
