No one who is put to death can come back to kill again.

Re: Death penalty works

Well, a dead criminal certainly cannot kill again and released murderers commit new murders too often. Hard evidence in favor of capital "punishment", but I see it as simply a way to absolutely prevent further crimes by those people.

However, the alarming number of innocent people rescued from death row by new technology says something very important.

I don't think it says eliminate execution as a form of prevention. I think it says our "justice" system is broke. I think it is about winning, not about justice.

How to reform it? I don't know, but I agree with a moratorium until it is fixed.

Sorry for the truly innocents that die, however I believe the death penalty should be given all repeat convicted felons, whatever their crime. There is no doubt that dead criminals aren't repeat offenders.

I'm sure that you did not mean to come off as you did, but the likes of Paris Hilton would fall into your net, would'nt that be a bit excessive?

So if someone writes bad checks twice, they should get the electric chair?

Thank god people like you aren't in charge.

I'd say that MAYBE for repeat violent offenders, but non-violent, non-contact crimes, no, that's stupid.

Bad checks do cost me and many others in business a lot of unnecessary expenses, which then have to be passed on to the general public if we want to remain in business.
Perhaps they should be flogged.

I disagree. The fact that we are finding and releasing them indicates that our system of appeals and reviews is working. I would be worried if we weren't finding them.

I'm not sure this would be a bad thing. Excessive. But not necessarily a bad thing.:p;)

Its obvious some just don't get it. I see no need to keep repeat felons alive. Three convictions should put them on the fast track to death row. There are no inmates in maximum security prison, that society at large will miss when they are gone. If their crimes meet the criteria to be considered felonies, and they continue to be convicted, whatever their crime, who needs them?

JRJ, you need to read up on the definition of felons and felonies.

I think you really mean capital crimes, like murder or voting Democrat.

Lemme get this straight; an economist at Wharton school of Business is an expert on crime statistics. Her major wasn't crime. Just another silly liberal running here mouth, trying to twist the facts. A fellow lib will agree with the twisted NON-logic, but anybody with a working brain sees right through it. Let the sparks begin..

No JB, I mean Convicted Felons. Voting Democrat isn't a crime, but certainly is considered stupid in my neighborhood.

Re: Death penalty works

As long as you have the right person for the crime I am sure it does and I am all for it..........but....if there is any doubt as has been the case when the "wrong person" is facing the death penalty then it is undoubtedly the wrong thing to do.
How would any of you folk feel if it was you that were wrongly convicted and sentenced to death ??? believe it or not it can and has happened. A "sorry" will not cut it and you would never go boating again !!!!
Think about it. You visit a pub / bar one evening and because you were there someone remembers your face and tells the authorities they saw you. For a conviction without any extra effort you could well be behind bars and then some !!!! You would wish that the 'fast track" to the execution was a little slower then.
Mistakes can and do happen.
