I will try to make this long story as short as possible...
I picked up this boat this fall, and am currently spending absolutely silly amounts of money basically having the whole thing redone from the bottom up. While I would have loved to attacked it all myself and learned my way through reading all your posts here, I just simply dont have the time, tools or location to do the work. In any event, I am now second guessing myself on a few things and am completely rethinking my approach to the interior...
I was trying to plan out new seating, and would love to be able to stand and drive. The current wheel position allows it, sort of, but I am too tall to comfortable stand in any sizable waves and control the boat in its current configuration. Lowering the floor near the bow might be possible, but due to the 'V' i would not be standing flat even if I lowered it.
As I look at the costs estimates for redoing the bow deck, buying a new canopy top and buying new seating (undecided on design), I am now wondering if i shouldnt just go completely open concept and convert to centre console. I would not get the canopy top at that point, would possible spend less on the top deck work I was going to get done even when considering the work to convert it.
I would gain the ability to have a true centre console, which I would enjoy, but would give up a few things as well.
I would give up being warm and dry in the early spring/late fall- this could be considerable as I plan on using the boat from ice-out to ice-in each year. I would give up dry storage under the bow as well.
I am driving myself nuts thinking about all the pros and cons, and figured I would throw it out here to folks that have likely debated this before and see what others opinions are...
I know i will love the boat either way in the end, I am just having such a hard time thinking of seating configurations that I really want
