Decal Residue Removal

So I removed some poorly done decals from my engine and am now faced with "Merc" in glue.

I have tried WD 40 and Goo Gone to no avail.

Any ideas? Acetone?

Would like to remove the glue residue with the underlying paint.

hair dryer, heat it up. then acetone, etc.

Goof Off also works well and is fiberglass safe.

I have had luck using starting fluid for engines.

The heat does help, but as my son found out on his snowmobile hood, at high heat, a hair dryer can damage the plastic if held to close, too long. He used lots of WD-40 and a straight edged bondo trowel, made of plastic. It did take a long time though.

If you have a sign shop in your area, get a product called Right Off. It works very well and does not harm any surface.
I own a small sign shop and use it often on fiberglass.

Brake cleaner (at any auto parts store) will often remove glue without hurting the paint or plastic. Obviously try it on a spot you can't see first!

Goof-Off or gasoline applied with wood finishing grade steel wool (XXXX-ultrafine).
