Re: decals

If you are trying to retore it to factory, you may have a problem, but if you just want it to look nice, you can get the mercury stickers made at your local vinyl sign shop and stripes of various sizes and colors at an auto parts store. Im ging to be posting some pictures tonight of my 150 covers I just did.

Re: decals

As Lubedude said you'll have a problem finding original decals - I can almost guarantee you won't (I tried for about a year - every obscure old shop I could find, on line and storefront, ebay, here, etc.). Also as he said, a local sign shop can probably make virtually identical decals if they have good photos, color samples, dimensions, etc.

As an alternative, you might consider just buying a set of current decals from a similar engine, stripping, painting etc., then putting the new decals on. If the numbers are wrong (e.g. HP), you can have just those digits made at the sign shop. Won't look original, but will look nice. That's what I hope/ plan to do with my 70s 9.8 if I ever get ambitous. I have the decals but not the energy.
