Decarb a Four Stroke?

I've seen the ads for seafoam and other products that claim to decarb. My BF130 is a 2002 and has 550 hours. Sounds like a good idea but thought I would see what you folks think first, plus a little nervous about putting stuff in my motor that Honda hasn't directly recommended per the manual.

If you troll alot, yes. Otherwise carboning is more of a 2-stroke phenomena.

Re: Decarb a Four Stroke?

Carbon buildup in 2 strokes is mainly because of the oil used in the fuel.

Your Honda is basically the same engine used in some Honda autos. 60 years ago we used to decarb auto engines with water, but modern 4 strokes are a whole different animal.

What Willy B says makes sense, but don't expect clouds of smoke and "restored" performance.

Thanks. I have not seen a noticable change in performance since new - so I won't mess with it.

You can run Seafoam in the fuel. It will keep the fuel system squeaky clean. I think Honda would encourage you to do that.

After setllar performance in my '02 outboard on a very light fast hull (hard to lug this dude), I have used it on my farm hay truck and 3 of my 7 tractors.

I am a believer. It does what engines like to have done.

Re: Decarb a Four Stroke?

Just cranked up my '64 MF diesel again today......the one I exposed to Sea Foam a couple of days ago, that I discussed in another thread.

Started instantly, almost no smoke (for an old diesel?????) and oil pressure held nicely hot (normal operating temp) at idle. Running out of things to put it in. Would it work on corn flakes? :/

Great stuff.
