Decarb products in Canada ?????

I have searched in vain for a product similar to the Seafoam discussed on this forum. Does anyone know of a product and where it can be purchased in Canada. None of the local marinas have ever heard of such a thing and the auto supply shops just tell me to use fuel stabalizer. What a joke. I am completely frustrated by the lack of knowledge and product availability in an area that is so full of lakes and rivers and boats. Has anyone else had this problem in Canada (Ontario).

The only place it's been sighted is 'Piston Ring' stores in the west. They're affiliated with 'Auto Value' stores in the East. So 'Auto Value' may carry Seafoam. If you do find it there, let us know. I keep meaning to check, but I havn't had a need to decarb anything lately. I keep finding I have to do it the manual way lately. :(

Go to your local outboard dealer and ask for their brand of decarb solution. Each manufacturer sells their own labeled product. Ofcourse, this will likely be the aerosol version, used to decarbon the engine, not the fuel additive.

Re: Decarb products in Canada ?????

Yes, as Paul says "piston ring" here in the wild west and "auto value" elsewhere. I just returned from lunch hour jaunt to purchase 2 more cans from PR. GREAT stuff! I've used 2 cans of seafoam and 2 of deep creep so far this summer with great results.

Each OB (4) that I've done with them so far has had smoother idle (small motors could idle down lower) and smoother run up under load. My V6 150hp completely lost the "hitch" that it had at the start of its holeshot. The difference was really noticable.

The 2 cans I bought today are to try it out on; 1) my mom's car that I'll be driving for a week or so... it has a hesitation/surge when hot and starting in traffic. It's been that way for a long time, and wasn't cured by a tune up. And 2) my dad's 4 cyl I/O that is idling really rough with occassional backfire. It has also had the regular tune up things done, but doesn't get much use, so my guess is the carb is gummed up.

When I go back to the other cottage in a month or so, I've got a couple other rough idling OB's that will get the same treatment. I'll have gone through about $100 of this stuff by the time the summers done!

I think someone should suggest to Cdn tire that they are missing out on a gold mine by not carrying seafoam / deep creep. Unless of course Piston Ring has exclusive distribution rights in canada... who knows??

I've been in Piston Ring when the shelf is empty and the counter guy said "yeah we can't keep it on the shelf, the boat guys are going crazy for that stuff". I guess the word's out in these parts.

I still think a home brew version wouldn't be hard to mix up... but I'm not sure what the "pale oil" component would be. Naptha and IPA are easy enough to find.

Brent

Rod,

I'm a Toronto guy too. No luck with getting Sea Foam.

Got caught at O'hare in november with one in my luggage. Thought I was going to be arrested.

Canadian Tire carries a couple of products. There is a green bottle of stuff that looks like sea foam. It is for decarb etc. I've used it to no ill effects. Don't know if it did any good.

I also tried and aerosol decarb from Canadian Tire. I used it on 50 year old motor that ran ok.

That motor now runs much better. Sea Foam/Deep Creep is probably better but the product in aerosol is called Revitilizer.

It worked. Don't know if i'll use on my '03 90 Merc though....

Joe

This probably isn't much help, but I have seen it at Fleet Farm which i believe is a midwest store and at Napa Auto Parts, but im not sure what region those stores reside in.

Re: Decarb products in Canada ?????

Thanks to all that replied. I have sent e-mails to both Piston Ring and Auto Value to get more details on the availability of the product in Ontario. I did find that Piston Ring does have two affiliate stores in northern!! Ontario. I'll post any feedback that I recieve.

This product (Seafoam) doesn't appear to exist in the UK either, is the stuff I can buy in my local auto accessory shop significantly different? Surely a 2 stroke is a 2 stroke, whether it's on an outboard or a motor bike, lawnmower, etc..., and any decarb product should do the job?

Hey I am sure if someone posts the email, website or phone number of the Seafoam manufacturer, they would be more than happy to take your order and mail you one or two cans

I am in Canada and if I want something, I just find the manufacturer and call then or write. Beats going from store to store and getting weird looks

Re: Decarb products in Canada ?????

Confirming fishhawk's discovery. I contacted Auto Value directly in the US and they gave me the contact of several affiliated stores here in Ontario. The outlet I contacted in Mississauga had the Seafoam product on the shelf at $9.99/can. The guy I spoke to didn't even realize he carried the stuff until he started checking around for me. He was as surprised as I was happy to finally find this stuff. Again thanks to all the feedback from the menbers here. I always learn something new.

The web site is http://www.seafoamsales.com/ and it is based out of Minnesota. If our friends to the North have someone coming down here it is available in most auto stores(Napa, Checker etc.)
