92/120 Force, only some problems, replaced starter once, 1 trim relay, couple batteries, other than that runs great, keep my fingers crossed, but I've read pros and cons from the site about decarbing, my manual I got with the boat doesn't say anything about decarbing, saw posts after 1st decarbing engines blowing up, mine runs fine what would be the benefit, also on alot of posts it mentions Quicksliver power tune, is that just added to the gas or something I spray into the carbs and cylinders? Any advice?!!!!!

Re: Decarb Undecided

91,
I decarb about once a year and it's never done anything but good for my engines. There's lots of good products out there just for that. Mercury has one, so does OMC. Sea Foam is good stuff too. If you've never decarbed, do it. It removes carbon from the piston tops which can cause detonation and frees up the rings. I never heard of decarbing causing an engine to blow up.

c/6

Hooty

Hi 91....

I'm with Hooty and roscoe on this one. I've never seen nothin' but good come form decarbing. As Hooty said theres lots of products out there to use for this. Also there are products to use with the gas to help reduce carbon build up. I use 2+4 from Bombardier regulary. It's a fuel stabilizer, keeps the fuel system clean and helps prevent carbon build up. Also does wonders for lawnmowers. You can also check iboats store also for these types of products.

Jim

I have a 1999 90hp Force and will also vote for the decarb - these engines are known for excessive carbon buildup. I don't think the brand is that important - I use the Mercury stuff just because it's a Mercury engine. Do the search function and you will find excellent instructions - as indicated above it will not harm the engine.

I agree decarb it and when your done and motor returns to normal replace the spark plugs, or if have new plugs now put in an old set before you start then return new ones when done..
