I have been unable to find sea foam to decarb my outboard engine. Did pick up some Ring Free Fuel Additive. Has anyone used it and if so is it any good.<br /><br />Thanks for the help in advance!<br /><br />Grumpy Old Fish

Sea Foam is not the only good decarb product, Fish. It just gets promoted here as though it is.<br /><br />Any OB dealer can sell you some good stuff.<br /><br />The fuel additive is a preventer, not so much as a cleaner.<br /><br />Good luck.

I also looked for something other than SeaFoam but could not find anything else that was recommended for two strokes. What type of engine do you have?

it is an 87 50 hp Evintude. Just bought it to replace an 87 50 hp that was vandalized last fall.

Mercury has a good product,its called "Power tune" for decarbing) "Quik Kleen" to keep it carbon free

The NAPA stores around here do not carry sea foam. Going on a road trip to Bas Pro Shop. They should have it.

llfish you and I don't live to far apart so when you go to nashville to bass pro just stop in at any advance auto or auto zone store and they will have it.<br />That merc power tune is good also.<br />Carquest auto in tenn also carries sea foam.

I found out earlier this week that seafoam if used in quantities greater than recommended, it will soften fuel-lines, bulbs and diaphram gaskets in fuel pumps, for those that run it in the fuel system...apparently it doesn't take much over the recommended dose to damage those components.

hello<br /> ring free is good stuff<br /> use it a 1 oz to 10 gal just like on the package. its a decarb additive not a conditioner nor a stabilizer.

Don't want to hijack ths string, but WallyHead, where did you get the information on SeaFoam damaging hose and diaphrams? I am sure a lot of the readers here use SF in strength.

A JohnRude dealer in South-central Nebraska.<br />Had been selling it for years AND recommending it....said he had several cases of engines coming in not running right, and found a black goo in all that had the simular symptoms (In the carbs). Eventually, he became aware that several of those people were using Seafoam and started making some phone calls....some people were pouring entire contents of can into 12-20 gallon fuel systems (Twice the recommended dose) and phoned the company for info on what affects it had at high rates and told them his problems with the black goo in some of the engines, and they confirmed the fact that if used Off-label, it can dissolve rubber, nylon, teflon, silicon-based material and even some aluminum tank sealants.<br />We sell the stuff, I can't say I've looked for cautions or warnings on the bottle, just rates to use it at. I use it and have never had a problem, but I use it as recommended too.

I would have thought you would get that kind of damage from using high alcohol content in gas. I know those folks are proud of thier corn being converted into gasahol. - <br />I had some hose softening/mushing in 1989 on my fuel lines in my boat when ARCO 1st started making thier gas with alcohol and Mercury and others started posting in owners manual not to use the stuff.<br />I don't know how much alcohol is in SeaFoam.
