Decarbing WOW what a difference

I got up this morning and decided to decarb my 1973 85 horse Evinrude. I used the method that gss036 describes in the FAQ forum.<br /><br />I have never seen so much mucky crap in my life! I ran it for 15 minutes and let it sit for 15 minutes, did that three times and then took it to the lake for a test run.<br /><br />Made a big difference in throttle responce and top end speed. The tach hasn't come in yet so I didn't get to see the difference there.<br /><br />I put a cardboard box behind the prop to see all the crap that came out and it was about 1/2 inch thick in the bottom of the box when I was done!<br /><br />Seafoam is one great product and I will be using it regularly from now on.

that's great!! glad it made such a difference!. If you're looking for a product to use "on a daily basis" try Carbon-Free made by ValveTech. It's made to keep marinre engines free of carbon buildup. I've used it for several years--works great!--add it to the gas tank and it goes a long was toward keeping it as clean as you got it now. You can get it at West Marine or Boat US.

tx,<br /><br />Did you use the deep creep spray? Or just the regular sea foam from a can and spray it in the carbs with a spray bottle....?

A lot of the stuff you see is crud built up in the exhaust area breaking free.

Must have been something in the air. I found a can of Sea Foam at Northern Tool and decided to try it. WOW. You talk about crud and cr^% coming out of the exhaust. 2 neighbors came by to see what was on fire because of the smoke. I picked up this 1974 70 hp Johnson and have no idea of the maintenance that's been done. From what came out of the exhaust, I can't wait to try it on the water this weekend. Read the earlier posts on how to mix it. The 3/4 gallon with a pint of SeaFoam for 15 mins made a believer out of me.

Go to WalMart and try "Berrymans B12" In the pour can. A little cheaper than seafoam and does just as good of a job for me. Pour it into the fuel a few times during the year and you dont need to "Decarb". My thoughts only

Kclost, I used the pour in Seafoam with a gallon of gas and the appropriate amount of oil.<br /><br />I ran it for 15 minutes then let it sit for 15 minutes, repeated that 3 times and used almost the full gallon of gas.<br /><br />The sludge that was dripping off my prop was amazing. It was about 1/4 inch thick!<br /><br />Be sure and put something over the exhaust or you will have it sprayed all over everything.

You can get those engines warm and put some in the spark plug holes and let set for about 30 min. and will cut that crud off quick
