Hello, first off done a lot of research with a lot of mixed reveiws, i wanted to decarbon my 75 70hp Johnson. From what I have read people have pulled the plugs dumped a bunch of seafoam into the cylinders and let it sit for an hr or two. and left the plugs out and turned the motor over to clear the cylinders then installed plugs and ran, and smoking like a mother because the gunk getting burnt out. Is this the best way? Or what's the proper procedure to do this also, hoe much seafoam should I pour down my head into the cylinders? Thanks for the help

Re: decarboning

You got it about right red. you don't need to put a lot in. maybe 1/2 cup in each cylinder. You can also get it in aerosol form and spray it into the throat of the carb at med-hi idle. She'll smoke like crazy, but that's what you want. Do 4-5, 4-5 second blasts in each carb and let it run at idle for 5-10 min. The rpms will drop as you do, but that's normal. They'll come back up as the Seafoam and crud burn off. You then want to turn the motor off and let it sit for 15-30 min. Then get her on the water and fire her up and run her at WOT to burn the last of the goop out. You can pour the rest of the seafoam into the gas tank of your outboard, or into the tank of your car. It works great there too. Best $10 you can spend on any motor. You should notice a smoother, lower idle and better compression and overall performance. Check out youtube for tons of vids on how to seafoam your car and outboard. You may want to warn the neighbors though. When we say smoke we mean smoke! Look at this RX-8!

Re: decarboning

I've always used BRP Engine Tuner and followed the directions on the can to a tee. Had real good luck with it. If the first can improves the mtr do it a second time.

Re: decarboning

Decarbing only works well with heat and a running engine.
