I hope some youngsters clicked on this thread. I fear that one day this event will become less significant, their are only 150 left and they are all in their late 80's early 90's . I hope not.

Ancestry.com has a free WWII records search through tonight. I found out my Dad served from 42 to 46, I did not know that, I knew he served in the Army during WWII but I never knew how long. He didn't share too many details.

I remember. And will always remember. Unfortunately, it seems the day passed with little notice. Didn't see reports of government sponsored memorials, of schools doing anything, or even people talking about it. Even Fox News had very little in the way of Pearl topics.

Hmmmm, our local news featured some local vets who where there, one got tears in his eyes as he remembered and some younger vets at a VFW had a ceremony in rememberance.

Over dinner last night i asked my kids what they learned in school about the war (8th, 9th, 10th grade)
and they said "nothing was said about it " with the exception of one teacher that said he did not understand why they put a airport runway over the Arizona. I told her to tell her teacher that he is a dumb *** and that he needed to call me. We spent the night watching the history chan. so they would learn some thing. It i a sad sad day when people do not remember or care about our history

December 7, 1941 was a date that changed the flow of world history. No date in the 20th Century, not even August 6th, 1945 (Hiroshima), has made so much of a difference.

FWIW - Saturday is "Wreaths Across America" (you can Google it if you're not familiar). My Squadron will be out laying wreaths at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In the long run it did force Japan to rebuild (with the help of the U.S.) and become one of the strongest industrial nation in the world.
