Decent, affordable paint job for commuter car?

I was thinking of repainting and getting peeled clear coat redone for my commuter Camry, as I would like to drive it for at least another 100K, the paint is faded, a few dings and clear coat peeling pretty bad. No rust. Is Maaco a decent place for price and quality? Just a basic paint job needed. Thanks :)

I had a little VW Fox painted by them a few years back. It was on a 'sale' price and I think I had them use the good paint. Some of the masking was a bit sloppy but on the whole, the car looked good. I didn't have them do any bodywork.

I would say, especially with the cost of paint, they would be hard to beat. Just make sure they do not push the car out in the rain before the paint cured. They did that with the Fox and it made a bunch of little wringlets in the paint. They did polish it out, though.

My son has had two older vehicles painted by Maaco. Neither was clearcoat though. I'm not sure how that would weigh in the prep.

Both jobs held very well for the couple years he kept both of them. Even in the AZ sun.

Be mindful that new piant shows every flaw under it so prep is
key.

I think I have clearcoat peeling - I dont need clear coat again I guess, just decent paint, maybe I'll drop by for an estimate. Mechanically car is great, tires good interior etc, would just look a little nicer :)

"Decent" and "affordable" are both very ambiguous terms.

Is "no runs or orange peel" decent?

Is "under $500" affordable?

Maaco probably fits the bill.

You may try contacting your local high school or vo-tech. Their auto body classes are usually in need of cars to work on. It will definitely take longer, but they typically only charge you for the materials not the labor.

If you go this route, just so you know, most students that will be working on your car are in the final stages of the class. They have already practiced on other pieces and just need real world experiences with a "customers" car.

Jb's got it covered.

Slia, excellent alternative idea. And a real possibility, at that. Thumbs up!
