decent cooler?

A wet towel will be counterproductive. Water is a very good at absorbing and transferring heat. Air has very little capacity to store or transfer heat. You would be much better off with a white cooler covered with a dry white cloth. ;)

I do not disageree. Here in AZ we deal with Humidity levels of !0%, or less. The "wet" keeps heat away.

The real issue is to keep heat away from the lid. In that case, WHITE, is the answer.

I guess it depends on where you live. Out here in the desert a soaked piece of cloth stays cool as the water evaporates, swamp cooler affect.

The Natural State is definitely not a desert environment. Around here we like our heat with plenty of humidity. We don't have it quite as bad as our friends to the south though.

Heat is HEAT. The "wet towel" works for us in the desert.

Thse REAL key is to keep the sun off of the cooler. As mentioned, keep the children out too.

I've kept ice-shaded-for four days in 120* heat.

It doesn't get much hotter than 120*. At least not in North America.

I can attest to the Coleman Xtreme 5 (keeps ice for 5 days in 90 degrees).

I've been involved in a fishing tournament for the last 2 days and needed a coolor for drinks for the volunteers. Our soninlaw recommended this coolor because thats what he uses at his daughter's softball tournaments.

We purchased one on Wednesday, put in a 20 pound bag of ice and drinks and I drained it this morning. About 3 cups of water is all that came out and I still have plenty of ice for today. It's been in the low 90's here the past coupld of days and the cooler has been either in the hot sun or in the back of a pickup.

We bought the big one for $49.99 which holds 118 cans and it has wheels and a collapsable handle. The next size smaller with a handle was $39.99.

The only downside is that once I had it loaded it was too heavy for me to get into the back of the truck by myself.

Your correct. I don't normally associate boating with a desert. :D:D
