Ya know, I was sitting there thinking about my semi annual fishing trips to Eagle Lake, Ca., and how I've gotten so good at fishing this particular lake that it's really not a challenge anymore. I go up there for a week and have my 4 fish in the first two days and they're fish that I definitely want to keep. I then end up smoking fish and eating fish and by the time I get home I've got gills.
This year I'm changing things. I just got back from Outdoor Pro Shops where I picked up the new G-Loomis CR-841-1 GX3 and a Shimano Core 50/51MG. I had it spooled up with 6lb Seaguar Tatsu which is pretty incredible stuff. I'm not a fan of Fluorcarbon's but this is a brand new breed. It has an inner core that doesn't stretch but the outer does. I just tested break strength on it and hit right at 8lbs on three tries and yes, it does actually have a decent amount of shock absorbing stretch to it. It does have some memory though,unlike the new mono's but it's not enough to cause any backlash problems on a good reel that's setup right. Certainly it would be o.k. on a Stella but I don't think I'd run it on any spinning reel that didn't have decent anti-twist characteristics. I'm not gutsy enough to run it on my Stella yet so I'll be using my favorite, Suffix Elite on that. I use that for leader on my bigger lead core setups with my Luna's and it is really sweet. It does have a breaking strength that's less than what it's labeled by about 1/2 lb but it never twists, has zero memory and good shock absorbtion.
Sorry, got off on line tangent they're for a minute. So anyway..... Ultra Lighting for fat fish is supposed to bring out the best of your abilities or make you feel like an idiot. LOL... I'm not sure which way it's gonna go so I'm not taking my lead core rigs out of the boat just yet. If the sun comes out in the morning I'm going to go play with this new toy up at Lake Sonoma, Ca. I'll let you all know how it goes after I get back.
