I have a 2019 Starcraft 211 MDX E deck boat. I have an aluminum 14.25x15 prop now and my WOT RPMs are at 6300. I am going with a stainless prop and am considering a Yamaha Reliance in 14.25x17 or Solas Titan HR 4-blade in 14.25x15. I am looking for feedback on which one I should go with. I am not looking for top end, I am more concerned with mid range cruising and hole shot.

6300 huh? 5500-6000 is usually WOT range for outboards,, 6300 seems a bit high... if you want hole shot and mid cruising punch. 4 blade is the ticket... not in a 15 if your running 6300, 16 or 17 in a 4 blade will get you back to 6000rpms

Thanks for the feedback. I agree 6,300 is high and I even I did not believe it at first. After several tests, it was consistent at 6,300 at 43 MPH.

Check the setting on the tach first. My brother ran a 115 hp merc for 2 years that read 6300 rpm wot. Come to find out the tach setting was wrong and he was actaully only doing 5600 rpm. It was set wrong direct from the factory RT188 Ranger.

Remember, when going from 3 to 4 blade, all else being equal, you're going to loose some rpm due to more friction from the extra blade/surface area of the 4 blade prop.

I love the idea of a 4 blade on a deck boat, but from what you're saying, you may be close with another 15" pitch prop when going 4 blade.

I'm thinking the 4 blade may trim that 6300 you're getting now down to something pretty close to where you want to be.

Was the combo lightly, medium or fully loaded (number of passengers) onboard when the combo achieved 6300 wot revs ? If the max wot rpm range for that motor is 6 K, at 6.3K that combo should have a very fast hole shot.

The boat had a half tank of gas which is 25 gallons and two average-sized adults during testing. The only reason why I came up with a 17: pitch is because Solas suggested it on their prop selector.

Which is the max wot rpm range for that motor as factory stated to begin with, if it's 6300 you're already there nothing to improve with described load, if it were 6000 rpm motor is over revving + 300 rpm which is not that wow. if plan adding an extra boater wot rpm will drop accordingly. Over revving is something to bear in mind only when going full hammer down, not an issue boating with less throttle rpm as long the combo remains on plane.

The Prop Selector only "suggests" props, generally won't match 100% your boating requirements, only a water run will tell. If you don't count with a prop as a starter prop a Prop Selector is the best way to go for one.

5 blade, same pitch will get you everything you want. I switched to a 5 blade from a 3 blade and couldn't believe the difference in hole shot and handling.

Hey Guys, I wanted to provide an update. I put on a Solas Titan 4 with a 17" pitch. My hole shot and mid-range performance increased tremendously. My RPMs are down to 5,400 at WOT and I only lost 1 MPH on the top end.
