I have a 24 foot walk around with an I/O.
I have an issue where I have 1" drains on the sides (both port and starboard), in any type of sea, the water will come up through the open drains on the deck, and eventually drain down into the bilge. The drains are at the water line.
My setup is as follows (and this is how it was when I bought it, i'm trying to fix the problem):
On the starboard side: 1 deck drain in the rear corner with a hose attached directly to a thru-hull fitting on the side of the boat, there does not appear to be a check valve or scupper of any kind in the line.
There is also the thru-hull fitting with a direct line to the bilge pump, this does not cause any problem (or perhaps it's the only problem...can water come back in through the hose into the bilge?).
On the port side, The same deck drain in the corner attached directly to a thru-hull fitting, again, no valves or scuppers.
Another thru-hull fitting with a hose attached directly to a bait-well type tub in the transom, this doesn't appear to be an issue.
I also have drains under each side of the engine cover, I believe that this is where the incoming water flows to get into the bilge, there are no hoses attached to them.
I also have a drain under another compartment cover (used for batteries) in the floor, there is no hose on that either.
I want to make this thing not take on so much water and I'm not sure the best route.
It is VERY hard (if not impossible) to get under the deck to where the thru-hull fittings are (I'd probably need to cut hatches in the floor).
I have lost my camera, otherwise I would post pics, but here is a link to an identical boat that is for sale. This boat has MANY more drains than mine, I only have the two side-by-side on each side, at the water level (or slightly above): http://boats.iboats.com/1995-baha-cruiser-boats-240-fisherman-wac/592361.html
This picture shows the drains in the floor (both have direct lines to the side drains). You can see the engine cover (2 drains - 1 on each side, closest to the transom, no hoses) and floor compartment cover (1 drain, no hose).
