I just got a 16" Magnum mod 151 . The guy I got it from said he replaced the floor about 4 years ago. I found out he ment the plywood over the deck. It was warped and loos so I took it out and . stepped thru the deck. There is a lot of rotted wood floating in the water under the deck, which I just drained. I havent cut into the deck yet to see how bad it is. Guess my ? is .. Is it even worth cutting in there it looks really bad. From about 1/4 of the way from the back to just behind the walk thru ,and nearly all the way to the sides is soft. Well I will be looking at it more this week and will post pix if I can ...

Re: Deck gone ?

Welcome to iboats.

Until you investigate further..... no one can be sure of what needs to be done.

My first question is where did the water come from under the deck? Is the hull leaking too?

Get the boat onto dry ground and drain it. Inspect the exterior of the hull and then go deeper.

When you step through the deck and find "a lot of rotted wood floating in the water under the deck", its time to rip out the entire deck and stringers.
Probably the transom is rotted too.

Its a project boat, or a parts boat. Depends on how you look at it.

Re: Deck gone ?

Ok a little more info .. It has dried out some , and I can see that the bottom of the deck supports is rotted. I haven't taken up the fiberglass, covering the deck yet, been raining, to see the extent of the rot. Will do that this weekend if it isn't raining. The transom and all the wood in the rear of the boat seems to be just fine. Just the center third is rotted. Looked at the bottom and don't see any holes but will inspect it closer also this weekend.
Got the thing cheap enough that i can put a few hundred into it and not get hurt, if I can use it a couple of years.
As for how the water is getting in there . There are a couple of holes cut into the deck 2" dia . For what I don't know. They dont line up to any seats or anything else I can think of.
Oh thanks for the welcome and quick response. as I said Ill get more info and some pix asap.
Polyurethane ? will this work to seal the plywood befor i glass and paint it ?

Re: Deck gone ?

I also have taken on a new project the past 2 weeks. I can honestly say all the search engines on the site help alot. As far as a few hundred I can only say I hope your garage is set up better than mine. Just in safty equipment I have around 125.00 Please use respirator, googles, gloves and cover up well when working with fiberglass. Its not worth your health trying to save a couple of bucks. Good luck on your new quest and I wish you great success. The guys on this site know there stuff, If you can't find it just ask. Oh..! and one of the best quotes I've seen is " BOAT> Bring Out Another Thousand.
GRIND ON..!
