deck hatch handles?

what is the best thing to use for a handle for deck hatches besides the expensive ones that you see on bass boats?

or you can just drill a hole in the hatch for a finger pull.

How about maybe straps? Formed into a loop, with the ends attached together on the underside of the hatch. When you close the hatch, the loop remains above deck. Similar to the picture here. But this one looks like they could be easily tripped on. I'd make the loop alot smaller and with the strap ends flat back to back instead of side by side (which would be an always-open foot/toe catcher).

thats a great idea! it wouldnt cost me anything because im sure i can find some strap laying around somewhere. thanks
