I just got a 1991 Bayliner Capri 2050 Bowrider. The boat was abused! (sat outside uncovered for years) This winter I'm going to restore the boat. New paint, new foam, replace what rotten as far as fiberglass, new upholstery, new deck, and new material on the deck. I'm going to be doing some fishing out of the boat, so I don't want carpet to go back in it. I have been looking at the roll on bed liners used in pickup trucks as on option. Its non-skid, rubber, easy to clean, and as long as I don't get black, it won't get too hot. Has anybody else done anything like this in their boat? With the paint scheme I am thinking for the boat, I'm also thinking about carrying it onto the deck to give it a true custom look. A company out there called Grizzly Grip actually markets their product to boat owners. What do you who have done it before think?

Re: Deck questions

Welcome to iBoats!

Lot's of differing opinions on this subject. As with any topcoat product, for me, it's all about the prep. If you prep the surface properly the product should adhere correctly and perform "As Advertised". Peeling and Flaking are the usual complaints and almost always can be traced to poor prep work. So I guess what I'm saying is, It's your boat and if you would like to try the product then I say give it a go, I think you ar spot on in staying away from darker colors but if you prep it correctly it should serve you well. I have heard that if you need to remove it... It can really be a BEAR to deal with.;)

Re: Deck questions

If I have to remove it, I think I'll just replace the boards! I wouldn't want to even think about trying to scrape it off once its on there. The fact that I'm going to do the major work over the winter will give me plenty of time for the prep work!

Re: Deck questions

I had a 17' Alumacraft that I did the DIY bedliner stuff on, it worked great. It helped with cutting down sound and the grip was better than carpet. Go for it !
