Deck Removal

Hello again everybody. I have an old astroglass bass boat that need the deck removed to get to the floor/stringers etc. I have drilled out all the rivets and cut the tape holding the bulkhead and seats. Anything else I need to do before I lift the deck off? Also, should I simply recruit the neighbors to help me get it off or is there some other way I should lift it off? The next question is premature, however, when I do replace the deck later, should I replace the rivets I removed or should I fill the holes and use screws? Sorry gang, first project and I'm somewhat overwhelmes - but okay. Thanks for your advice. It is certainly appreciated.

Re: Deck Removal

You will need to break the seal at the transom/engine well. Sometimes that can be tough. Usually a chisel will seperate the two pieces.

Thanks Bounder. Some pictures may help me understand. Are you saying I should take a chisle between the transom and cap from the rear of the boat? Please be patient, not only learning about the repairs, but also the lingo. No live wells - just storage for tanks/batteries. I'll try to post some pictures to let you know what I'm up against. thanks.

Ha!, You've been a great help and I really appreciate your taking the time to try to help me figure this out. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures directly on this site I'll post some shots of my boat (well, it's going to be a boat some day)
